Just an ordinary photograph

As the title says this is just an ordinary photograph from a street that could be anywhere.

North Korean Disney 4

What is slightly worrying is not that one child is wearing a Mcdonald's teeshirt it's that these children are walking home down a street in Pyongyang, what was it that politicians said about economic and business sanctions?

Still the little girl's are innocent and this Cat for one hopes that they are enjoying the sun while trying to figure out exactly what the big golden 'M' and the word in a strange language printed on them actually means tee hee.

The world's oldest Cat

Missan a farm Cat from Sweden is about to gain a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest living Cat. And judging by the right hook she is throwing in the picture below it looks like Missan even at her advanced age could go a lot more than 12 rounds doesn't it!

Missan the worlds oldest cat

Åsa Wickberg, from Karlskoga in southern Sweden, found and promptly adopted Missan when she was a kitten in 1985.

But Ms Wickberg didn't realise how impressive her pet's lifespan was until she read a newspaper article about a Cat who was ‘younger’ and quickly made a few phone calls.

So move over Tiffany Two, from San Diego, California, who until now was considered to be the world’s oldest living Cat but is actually ‘only’ 26.

But Missan still has some way to go to better the oldest Cat in history! Creme Puff, from Austin, Texas, who sadly died in 2005 was 38 years and three days when he hung up his loafers, now that is old!

Clever Dick!

An idiot explains

This is the divinely precious moment when a 'learned' Saudi cleric Sheikh Bandar al Khobairi is captured on TV trying to explain his theory that the Earth doesn't revolve around the Sun and that instead the Sun rotates around the Earth.

This über fool not only decided to tell everyone his theory while answering questions at a university in the United Arab Emirates which was his first mistake he explained it in great detail using a small container of water on TV if you ever did.

This is what he said trying prove his point as he launched into a convoluted effort to explain his theory using the example of an airplane flying to China.

"If we leave Sharjah airport on an international flight to China... the Earth is rotating, right?" he asked sarcastically. "So, if the plane stops still on air, wouldn't China be coming towards it? True or not?"

"If the Earth rotates on the other direction, the plane will not be able to reach China, because China is also rotating as the plane rotates."

Yeah right! And if you followed it, do drop me a line and translate it from the original gibberish please.

Of course the Earth doesn't rotate around the sun, it's flat after all, everyone knows that!

Incidentally according to al-Arabiya newspaper this is the same idiot who said that Nasa never sent humans to the moon, rejecting lunar landing videos as a Hollywood fabrication.

Unfortunately a lot of idiots around the Arab world believed him at the time and spouted his nonsense by rote!

It doesn t mean the same in Sweden does it

Hmm a bar of 'Plopy' it doesn't mean the same in Swedish as it does in English! Or does it? Either way I don't think you could persuade me to take a large bite out of a bar of 'Plopy' even if it was chocolate covered.

Imitation is highly prized in Bangalore

Imitation is highly prized in Bangalore

Learning from its neighbour China, India is latching onto the idea that you don't have to invent things because it's just too much like hard work.

India has for a long time been known for its 'Phake' drugs indeed the economist and author Roger Bate wrote the not so best selling but informative book 'Phake: The Deadly World of Falsified and Substandard Medicines' which describes in gruesome detail India's counterfeit drugs manufacturing industry and the horrifying effect it has on people trying to save money when self treating very serious illnesses.

Now it would seem that just like China, India considers copying from west to be a legitimate form of product development! Sadly this blatant infringement of copyright doesn't just happen when Indians are manufacturing consumer goods and medicines it also happens in their most cherished of industries Bollywood.

Below is just one poster, from an enormous number of Hollywood rip-offs, for Ra.One a 2011 Indian science fiction movie about a superhero film directed by Anubhav Sinha, and starring Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor.

Batman Poster copy

What a lack of originality sad isn't it!

More odd products from dear old Dorset

As you may remember from my last little blog there is a river in Dorset called the River Piddle and from its envigorating water the famous Piddle Beer is produced.

Well the good people of Dorset are not content just to have a river and beer with naughty names they have a biscuit that has what is considered in some places to be an extremely rude name.

The Dorset Knob isn't a sweet biscuit and is best served with cheese or just butter. It's a sort of interesting chomp, because the first thing you have to do with a Dorset Knob is get into the blessed thing. They are beyond hard, but once in the mouth they are really rather nice.

Dorset Knobs are for sharing though and that's because you can't help sharing them! As you bite into one it shatters, and splinters fly off in every direction, usually over guests who have come for tea and a Dorset Knob or two.

Dorset Knob

So why call a beer Piddle and a biscuit a Knob? It isn't a sort of odd fascination that Dorset folk have for the nether regions I can tell you! I know you can blame the Germans for the word Piddle. Piddle's roots can be traced back to them.

As for the naming of the rather innocent Dorset Knob, well there are two suggestions for the rather odd name and neither (happily) have anything to do with marketing unlike most things in the rather cheap and tawdry world we live in today, the word Knob is used either because the Dorset Knob resembles a Door Knob (or handle) or a particular button shaped like a wheel called a Dorset Button.

Dorset crosswheel buttons

Sadly these interesting buttons are no longer available because they were originally made by hand and of course you can get, "high quality handmade buttons from China all made using state of the art machines for a much 'better' price." Well you don't expect a Chinese manufacturer eager to export his substandard products to the world to tell the truth do you?

Once in a while it has to be Piddle!

A place to drink Piddle Beer Dorset

Ok I should explain. There is a river in Dorset called the River Piddle, sadly it isn't that much of a River actually, more of a piddling little stream in most places that it dribbles its way through. From this river, so they say, whoever 'they' are, water is drawn for a rather fine beer. Piddle Beer which always has them rolling in the aisles, for a number of reasons tee hee.

And so it's only logical that one of the hostelries along the occasionally meandering course of The River Piddle should be 'The Piddle Inn,' no sorry it's not an instruction or indeed an invitation, it's a Pub where they serve Piddle Beer.

If you want a bit of local history then do read on, personally I like bits of information like the following.

The river Piddle is old enough to have several names among them are Pidelen and Pydel, and as they were prone to do the rather prudish Victorians changed the spelling of the River Piddle to the River Puddle, because, and you have to titter here, 'piddle' is the same as the word for peeing or taking a piss and the Victorians didn't like to pee obviously!

Piddle

As you can see it is a rather pretty little river in places and definitely not a 'puddle' as those idiotic Victorians claimed! It may even still contain fish with only one head, instead of the sort of mutant more common in rivers from the developed, and awfully messy, world.

Google invents a tyrant's son!

As my dear cuddly readers know full well. I am a Cat with opinions. I loathe Facebook, Fools, and Google, though not exclusively, I could add Royalty, Politicians, Wikipedia and Twitter but that might seem as though I was being churlish.

And out of that gaggle of ghastly I think I actually like Google the least. Why? I hear you ask in amazement, well they spy on their customers through their email which Google browses at its leisure, they mine the data that their spyware in the mobile phones' operating systems that are built into them and they do the same to the users of their search engine.

Goodness knows what they will get up to when a lot of people become passengers in their driverless cars?

So why am I so against Google? Well any organisation with the power that they have to wield should get your facts right, even when they are presenting information about people who might not deserve factual information written about them. Or worse may well not want factual information provided about them!

Here is a recent example of the fallibility of the Google algorithm, or to you and I the Google search engine. A tool which billions of people use everyday and seem to rely upon to provide 'factual' information! This newish feature is I believe laughingly called the "Knowledge Base," well it had me rolling in my aisles I have to say!

Below is one of those tiles that half fills the page when you do a search for anything/one famous, it's a collection of search result data that is cobbled together hurriedly by the search engine and dumped in place to provide some 'pertinent'(and I use that word as a joke) facts (and that one's a joke as well).

Karimov search

Islam Karimov is a lot of things and most of them not particularly attractive or desirable, however like most tough guys he loves his children, he has two!

Karimov son

"Now isn't that a little odd you fool Cat," I can hear you saying because if you look at the extract from the quick search Google page above covering his children you will see that he has three, two daughters Gulnara and Lola and a son 'Rustam.'

Odd then that 'his' son was born in Azerbaijan! And the only reason he is quoted by the confused Google search engine is that he has the same last name as the President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov and obviously in the brains of the Google search engineers comes from somewhere over there, where the countries names end in 'stan' or 'jan' and aren't anywhere near as important as Google themselves.

And if you asked President Karimov about his son he would think you madder than the people who rely on search engines and online Encyclopaedia because he knows and very few others it would seem know that he has never fathered a son.

Lastly goodness knows what Rustam Karmimov thinks about being given a new father when his own is probably perfectly adequate, and worse a new father that is an ex-Soviet henchmen, or is that an ex-Soviet and still a henchman? And for 25 years has been boiling people alive, killing Uzbek journalists who are in hiding in neighbouring countries for criticising his regime and is not adversed to the odd massacre or two every decade or so.

Still it isn't just Google that is causing so much illiteracy! When typing 'Karimov' I missed the cap key and got 'karmic' served by my Apple computer's spellchecker. Oh how I weep for the future generations who rely on this inadequate software that abounds today serving us nonsense and adverts in equal measure!
